Claude Desktop has a third-party Anthropic-compatible gateway mode — you can run ethereal right inside the official app. ▶ Watch the video — connecting ethereal to Claude Desktop

1. Install

Download and install the app from claude.ai/download.

2. Enable Developer Mode

On first launch, do not sign in to an Anthropic account.
To open the menu without signing in:
  1. Click the email input field
  2. Press Tab — focus moves to the menu button
  3. Press Enter
Then: Help → Troubleshooting → Enable Developer Mode. The app restarts.

3. Configure the gateway

After the restart, open the menu again (Tab → Enter) and choose Developer → Configure third-party inference. Fill in:

Click Apply locally and close the window. Done — the app now routes through ethereal.
Charges follow the model’s rate for the actual tokens. See your balance and breakdown in your dashboard.
